Alleged and Attempted Abduction Cases, School Chief Says 'No Guns'

At La Mesa-Mount Helix Patch, we know that in your busy lives there may be some stories that you can't read about the day they happen. With the "Week That Was" column, we'll provide a roundup of the most important stories of the week.

Three possible abduction stories highlighted our coverage last week. In the first, a 17-year-old girl fought off would-be abductors in Spring Valley. Another story involved a woman who was found on a roadway, who alleges to have been kidnapped and held against her will in La Mesa. The third story had a happier ending, as a 3-week-old infant who was abducted from her Spring Valley home was recovered in Lakeside.

New San Diego Unified Schools superintendent Cindy Marten spoke to the La Mesa Democratic Club last week. Among the topics was gun violence in schools, and Marten said that she was fervently opposed to teachers having guns in the classroom.

With the news that the unemployment rate is down almost a full point since 2012, Assemblyman Brian Jones said in his weekly video message that "unemployment benefits are a safety net, not a hammock."
