– Grossmont High School wrestlers competed in the Southern California Interscholastic finals. More than 600 local wrestlers across San Diego competed. Before this year, Grossmont had been unable to enter the competition due to a lack of adaquate facilities. Led by coach Ken Maynard, the Foothillers went to the mat against 15 other local schools, in weight ranges of 95 to 215 pounds. They finished the season with a 3-4 record. Maynard, wary of more important sports, said of his wrestlers, "It's a great way to develop football talent."

– It was announced this week that the Spring Valley Coordinating Council and the Control Board must be separate units, according to the County Department of Parks/Public Works. Representatives from various Spring Valley organizations were told that there must be another person to represent the Control Board. A spokesperson from the coordinating council said that unless the people of Spring Valley give thought to zoning, that the area could get absorbed into La Mesa, Lemon Grove, or even part of San Diego. Projects have taken longer than expected, giving credence to the threats of Spring Valley remaining independent.
