Law enforcement drill planned Tuesday and Thursday on Grossmont campus

Grossmont College cautions its neighbors not to become alarmed on the afternoons of Tuesday, July 16, and Thursday, July 18, when sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement personnel will participate on the campus in emergency drills to hone their tactics in case Grossmont College, or any other local school, were to be invaded by a shooter with a gun, or a hostage taker. 

From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both days, the law enforcement drills will involve scenarios in the main parking garage (Lot 5), Griffin Center, and the 500-series of classroom and office buildings.  The drills are planned to begin after classes in the 500 buildings are completed.  Students, faculty and staff have been alerted to the drills by signs, social media and text messages in an effort to prevent panic when they hear the sounds of blank rounds being fired on campus by the officers.

Sunita V. Cooke, president of Grossmont College, and officials from the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District will monitor the proceedings, which they describe as important preparation for a situation that everyone hopes will never occur.   - DHH
