Vons Wants to Help Teach Little Ones to Eat Their Fruits and Veggies

La Mesa Vons stores and others across the region will offer fliers to help guide parents in introducing healthy eating options for children.

Want to know more about feeding small children the right foods? Or know someone who should? Let Vons in La Mesa help.

First 5 San Diego, a tax-funded early childhood advocate, has kicked off a healthy eating initiative in partnership with the grocery giant.

The campaign aims to encourage “parents and caregivers to provide healthy food choices to children at an early age,” according to a news release. It will include a MTS bus wrapped with a First 5 logo and educational fliers available at all of the region's 58 Vons outlets.

The La Mesa Vons stores are located at 8011 University Ave. and 3681 Avocado Blvd.

“We want to encourage families to use grocery shopping as a time to talk with children about healthy eating,” said Kimberly Medeiros, First 5's executive director. “The earlier you introduce new fruits and vegetables, the more likely they are as adults to carry on with those good eating habits.”
