Just Between Friends: 4,400 Items Up for Discount Grabs in 2-Day Sale

Cowboy Charlie will make appearance at consignment event Saturday at the La Mesa Woman's Club.

Many toddlers take exception to the whole sharing thing, but 3-year-old Katie Fernandez is a pro when it comes to Mommy’s cause.

“She’ll go find things and bring them to me and say they’re for the babies,” said Amy Fernandez, an Alpine resident.

For the past few months, Fernandez has been collecting items to host a Just Between Friends with business partner and La Mesa resident Tammy White―their first after buying the San Diego franchise in June. So far, they’ve collected 4,400 items from 90 consignors and counting.

The concept is simple: JBF provides a place where consignors can turn gently used children items into money. Items are clean, have been repaired if necessary and are sold in pristine condition.

But more than a sale, Fernandez and White have planned a party. On Saturday, Cowboy Charlie will make a noon appearance for singing and reading. On Sunday, some consignors will mark their remaining items at half off.

“So that’s a good time to shop if you’re really a bargain hunter,” Fernandez said.

The two-day sale begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at La Mesa Woman’s Club. Volunteers and consignors are still being sought and can click here for more information.
