Scary Good Halloween Costumes Don’t Have to Be Store-Bought, She Says

Debbie Solan reminisces about her favorite homemade outfits and prepares for the pumpkin carving event she'll host at Fusionglass Co.

“It was a really sparkly dress that my mom had,” she said, admitting she cut it up, “and a scarf that my mom had from the ‘60s. It had little coins on it and I had it wrapped around my head.”

She’s passed the creative passion along to daughter Dealgnaid (pronounced Dal-ney) McNamara, who’s also never worn a store-bought costume and is now her friends’ costume consultant each year.

But she says this year isn’t about what costume to wear; that’s all been figured out.

This year is about pumpkin carving, an event Fusionglass Co. will host from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Cost is $5 per pumpkin and RSVPs should be sent to debbie@fusionglassco.com. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served.
