Second E-Waste Recyling Event in 8 Months Set at Grossmont Center

La Mesa Chamber of Commerce again hosting effort, which also benefits the business group.

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce this weekend is hosting its second electronic waste recycling event in eight months, which also serves as a revenue source for the chamber.

So-called e-waste will be collected from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14-15 near B2BFit, formerly Lava Fitness, in Grossmont Center.

“[A] new federal mandate requires that television stations switch from analog format to digital format, which means a greater number of televisions will become obsolete within the next several years,” the chamber says.

Among items that can be recycled are computer monitors, PC systems, printers, laptops, copiers, scanners, fax machines, toner cartridges, power supplies, networking equipment, VCR or DVD players, landline and cellular phones and small Portable Devices.

“We also accept car and forklift batteries,” the chamber says. “There is a $5 service fee for microwave ovens.”

The otherwise free event will not accept refrigerators, washers and dryers, fluorescent light bulbs and household batteries, the chamber says.

For more information, contact the chamber at 619-465-7700.
