Free Diabetes Screenings at Grossmont Center May Be Revelations to Some

In past years, many at East County health fair have discovered they are diabetics. Event boasts more than 75 booths.

Over the years, Judy Dreis has noticed something neat about East County’s free health fair—the number of people diagnosed with diabetes.

OK, so maybe that isn’t the neat part. Rather, it’s the fact that people get a comprehensive medical diagnosis without having to pay.

“When we do the diabetes screenings, there are people who have found out they have diabetes who would not have known otherwise,” said Dreis, the member services representative for the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce. “I always thought that was interesting.”

The health fair will have additional screenings for stroke and blood pressure, along with information ranging from health-related techniques and products to health insurance and senior housing.

“It’s for all ages; there’s something for everyone,” Dreis said. “There’s a lot of information given out.”
