Don't Let a Con Artist Stick You With the Dry Cleaning Bill

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce is warning businesses of a scam involving a claim that they are responsible for a customer's dirty laundry.

Business owners should beware of anyone demanding payment because their clothes were stained at local shops, warns the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, via the La Mesa Courier.

The scam involves a male named Michael calling up businesses and claiming his wife's clothes were stained at the establishment, according to the report. He asks for $45 to pay the cleaning bill.

The chamber is asking proprietors to contact police if they get any such calls, at 619-667-1400.

The con artist also is apparently calling places that already agreed to give him the funds. The chamber encourages owners to try and get a callback number should they receive such a call.
