announced Tuesday it will give fans yet another chance at attending the July 12-15 event—via resale of “badges” that have been returned.
In an email to registrants, the San Diego Comic Convention said it would close its Member ID website at 5:30 p.m. Pacific time Thursday, May 24, “in advance of our canceled and returned badge resale.”
The actual date of the online resell was not revealed. The website said:
To be notified of the badge resale date, please sign-up for a Comic-Con Member ID and be sure not to "opt-out" of email correspondence. The Comic-Con Member ID system will close at 5:30 pm Pacific Time (PT) on May 24, 2012 to prepare for the badge resale. You must sign-up for a Member ID and confirm your email before this date to participate in the badge resale.
Only those who have not purchased or registered for a Comic-Con 2012 4-day badge or Saturday badge will be allowed to participate in the resale.
Since we received so few returned Comic-Con 4-day badges, we decided to split them into single day badges to accommodate more people who want to attend this year. Comic-Con will have 5,000 single day badges available for purchase.
To receive an email notification of the resale date and time, sign-up for your Member ID before May 24, 2012 and be sure not to "opt-out" of email correspondence from Comic-Con.
We are not taking a wait list for returned badges or badge resale notification.
Everyone who intends to purchase, apply, or register for a Comic-Con badge must have a valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID. This includes attendees, volunteers, professionals, trade professionals, and members of the press. Please visit http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_reg_memberid.php for details.
Two months ago, that its original online sale of passes was beset with technical problems and offered registered members another shot at the coveted badges—the word it uses because of its nonprofit status.
The convention has a worldwide reach and makes the San Diego Convention Center the center of the industry’s universe every summer.
The rest of Tuesday’s email announcement follows:
The badge resale will not take place over the Memorial Day weekend or on Memorial Day. If you know someone who would like to participate in the badge resale, but has not yet signed up for a Member ID, please instruct them to sign-up as soon as possible. The only way to participate in the badge sale is to have a Member ID.
We have struggled with how to offer our returned badges for sale this year. Because of time constraints our choices were to not have a resale this year or use the online system we have in place. We know there are a lot of you counting on the resale to attend Comic-Con so we have decided to have a resale and to use the system we currently have in place.
Since we received so few returned Comic-Con 4-day badges, we decided to split them into single day badges to accommodate more people who want to attend this year.
We will have 5,000 single-day badges available for purchase.
It is important to remember that while great efforts have been taken for the badge resale to proceed smoothly, it is probable that the number of people attempting to purchase a badge, or technical issues, could have a negative impact on the process and your ability to get a badge for Comic-Con 2012.
This will be the last badge sale for Comic-Con 2012. Once the allotted number of badges have been sold, regardless of any problems, badge sales will be considered closed and final for this year's Comic-Con.
If you would like to participate in the resale, please go to http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_reg.php for additional information.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
