Cohn Restaurant Group With Chef Deborah Scott to Take Over Old Gingham Spot

Mayor Madrid says the restaurant should open around the turn of the year.

The prolific and popular Cohn Restaurant Group is planning to open a new restaurant with Executive Chef Debora Scott at the old Gingham spot in the La Mesa Village, it was announced at the city council meeting Tuesday evening.

Mayor Art Madrid said the restaurant should be opening in December or January and confirmed rumors that the Cohn Group would be the buyer.

In December, a rumored sale of Gingham to the Cohn Restaurant Group fell through, allowing the restaurant to remain in La Mesa. But, in May the doors shut and a representative from the restaurant confirmed that it was being sold and “is in escrow.”

Gingham was one of a number of fabric-themed eateries owned and operated by celebrity chef Brian Malarkey, and was "Urban Cowboy" themed.

No details have been released about the name, style of food or atmosphere that the new restaurant might have.

Madrid said that two of the three partners opening the restaurant live in La Mesa.

This would be restaurant number 14 for the San Diego-based restaurant group, and their first in East County.
