Celebrate San Pasqual Winery's Expansion Saturday and Sunday

The expanding winery will feature award-winning wines to mark its arrival on Center Street.

The owners of the San Pasqual Winery will host a two-day open house in La Mesa Saturday and Sunday at the new outpost of their expanding business.

"We're excited for the grand opening of our new winery," McWilliams said in a news release. "We want to show San Diegans that they don't have to drive all the way to Temecula to enjoy outstanding, locally produced wines.

“The grand opening is an invitation to all local wine and food enthusiasts in San Diego to join us in celebrating, while enjoying great wine, great food and great company."

Performers include Mercury Street Blues and the Sock Monkeys on Saturday and the Push Pins and jazz trio Sam Diego on Sunday.

The owners say two of the wines they will offer at the opening are honorees or award winners – the Summervine Habanero Passionfruit Wine, which captured Double Gold at the 2013 San Diego County Fair, and the 2010 Lake County Malbec, one of five wines selected to represent California at a Malbec tasting in Cahors, France.

The new location is near San Pasqual's La Mesa Boulevard tasting room, and the owners say it will allow them to expand production of their vintages, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache.

The winery produces 1,500 cases of wine annually, but they estimate that soon will jump to 2,500 cases of wine, with projections of the total output eventually reaching 5,000 cases.
