Albertsons to Cut Up to 2,500 Jobs at California and Nevada Stores

The company said all stores will be affected; La Mesa has one and Spring Valley has two Albertsons locations.

The corporate owner of Albertsons said Wednesday that it will eliminate up to 2,500 jobs at the supermarket chain, which has one store in La Mesa on and two in Spring Valley on and Sweetwater Road.

The company, Supervalu Inc., said the jobs will be trimmed from all 247 Albertsons stores in California and Nevada, beginning June 17.

Supervalu attributed the decision to “simplifying its organization and reducing expenses to help reinvest in” initiatives for customers.

“A decision of this nature is never easy, but it is the necessary step for us to take to help improve our business and accelerate our turnaround.
