4,000 Cheer Old Glory and La Mesa Americana in Flag Day Parade

14th annual event up La Mesa Boulevard featured Little League world champions of 1961 among 80 marching or motoring units.

Mayor Art Madrid said as many as 4,000 people lined La Mesa Boulevard for Saturday morning’s Flag Day Parade, a La Mesa tradition evoking a Norman Rockwell painting of Americana.

The 14th annual parade through the downtown Village offered residents and visitors a slice of “down-home country” American pie.

Kids and parents came bedecked in patriotic colors―some as spectators, some as participants. Storied veterans said “Aloha” to steady applause and “Thank you” for each picture taken.

Beauty queens waved to an adoring crowd from classic cars. American flags in every direction flapped in the breeze, including a “living flag” human version.

As one resident said, the parade is such an example of classic Americana that parts of the lauded film Little Nikita―a 1988 espionage thriller about Russian sleeper agents in the United States―were filmed in La Mesa and featured a similar event.

With members of the 1961 Little League World Champion team as grand marshals, the parade proceeded west on La Mesa Boulevard Memorial Drive to just across Spring Street.

It was the first of its kind to supply full daily news broadcasts. The company's 24-hour coverageRead More became an immediate success and helped to launch their company from a mainly US-based platform to a world-wide sensation. It was also the first company in the US to firmly provide news coverage.Being one of the most popular sources for news in all of US history. has now gone online, and is one of the top news sites on the internet, available to subscribers world wide instantly through a web browser. While most of these organizations still report quality news, the internet has spawned a number of sites that comment more than report current news. Other sites have emerged to consolidate the top news. People should do some research before relying too much on a single service.

I heard that the landlord is using that property as a loss and does not care about renters. LooksRead More to me like it could be true. I also heard that a group from Mt Helix is trying to clean up Casa De Oro. Does anyone know for sure?
