Jungle Book will be presented at ENCORE! Theatre located at 9620 Campo Road, on Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 20, 21, 27, 28 at 2 p.m.

The Young Actors' Theatre recently made the following announcement:

Under the direction of mother-daughter team and leaders of the jungle, Michelle and Chelsea Mullen, more than 25 local East County youth with the Young Actors’ Theatre (YAT) will bring Mowgli, Baloo, Shere Khan and all the jungle friends to life in the intimate setting of ENCORE! Theater located in Spring Valley.

YAT’s "Jungle Book" is a family-friendly ensemble featuring favorites like "I Wan’na be Like You," "The Bare Necessities," "Colonel Hathi’s March," and more.

Director Michelle Mullen and choreographer Chelsea Mullen, a junior at Steele Canyon High School, have long been involved with Young Actors’ Theatre and are thrilled to be able to stage this production together.

At age 11, Chelsea played Bagheera in the original YAT staging of Jungle Book in 2007. Under the direction of music director Beatriz Corral – a 2011 graduate of Chula Vista High School and a Music major at San Diego State University – the students have quickly become adept at singing these popular songs which are accompanied by original dance routines.

“It is such a pleasure to have the opportunity to work both with my daughter Chelsea and Beatriz, and also with this talented young cast to produce this show," said Michelle Mullen. "The cast has been working very hard and the show is going to be a real treat for audiences to see.”

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s stories first published 1893-94, Jungle Book is a story about Mowgli, a boy who has been raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. When the wolves hear that the fierce tiger, Shere Kahn, is nearby, they decide to send Mowgli to a local "man tribe.”

On his way to the village, Mowgli meets many animal characters in this musical tale including Baloo, Kaa, King Louie, Bagheera, vultures, elephants, monkeys, and more. This cast of jungle friends represents more than 10 San Diego county schools.

Jungle Book will be presented at ENCORE! Theatre located at 9620 Campo Road, on Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 20, 21, 27, 28 at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 for students and seniors (by calling the box office) and $12 for adults for advance purchase and $15 at the door.

"A huge explosion on the sun will deal Earth a glancing blow today (May 17) but should not poseRead More a threat to the planet, scientists say. The sun storm erupted late Tuesday (May 14) during a powerful solar flare — the fourth unleashed by a single sunspot in just 48 hours — and hurled a massive cloud of charged particles out into space at millions of miles an hour."

Just imagine how much tax-payer money's been blown on Art's drinking junkets over the last quarterRead More century (and how many sidewalks have been soiled).

Rides4Neighbors is a great service. Because I work and travel a lot I cannot always get my motherRead More to her appointments and the folks at Rides4Neighbors are always so helpful and my mom really praises the drivers for their help and friendliness.

Mark, they were making that U-Turn to drop off their elementary school children in the red zoneRead More anyway....so the no U-Turn sign kills two birds with one stone: no bad U-Turns + no parking in the red zone. And, we are talking about elementary school children, so safety should have been all those parents first priority.

It is good to narrow the streets. Pedestrians are road kill in San Diego County. And if drivers doRead More not realize there is not enough room to make a U-turn, they need to retake the driving test instead of going over the curb. This is not rocket science people.

Did S(he) tell you what was "shoddy" about his helping women with their choice?
Stuart Strenger April 20, 2013 at 02:48 pm
I've talked to God, and (S)he definitely supports a woman's right to choose whether she remainsRead More pregnant or not but disapproves of the shoddy way Dr. Gosnell ran his clinic. Surely you see the distinction as well. Medical malpractice is malpractice from any religious or ethical position. By the way, God also said (S)he supports gay marriage.

What does your God say about Kermit Gosnell and a woman's right to choose?
