The Mighty Untouchables to Headline heART of Mt. Helix

The list of live acts at the annual night of art and entertainment was recently released. See the full lineup.

Tickets are on for the Sixth Annual heART of Mt. Helix held at East County’s most recognizable landmark, the memorial cross and historic amphitheater atop Mt. Helix. 

The sunset fundraiser will be held on August 17 from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm and will feature vignettes by the following local performing artists -

The Jamacha Project
The Jamacha Project is composed of three San Diego natives, Rodger Farris, Mark Phillips and local Mt Helix resident, Chris Anderson.  They formed in 2011 with a focus on writing and performing their own original songs.  The songs are an eclectic blend of Americana, jazz, rock, country and blues featuring their distinctive guitar work and three part vocal harmonies. They were recently selected by Cathryn Beeks of KPRI 102.1 to perform at the Homegrown Hour Monthly Showcase highlighting musical duo and trio groups for their exceptional vocal harmonies. www.jamachaproject.com.  

The Magic and Comedy of Alfonso
Alfonso was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and grew up in San Diego, California. He enlisted at age 17 and served in The United States Marine Corps 24 years. In his early years, he fell in love with magic, followed his passion and now performs all over San Diego County.  Alfonso has been performing magic for 23 years and what he loves most are the smiles and enjoyment that he brings to people’s lives.  Alfonso performs well over 250 shows annually at large corporate events, fairs/festivals, birthday parties, weddings, grand openings, colleges, and more across the country!

Sister Speak
Nominated in 2011 as 'Best New Artist' at the San Diego Music Awards, Sister Speak, led by singer/songwriter Sherri-Anne with drummer Lisa Viegas, is a collaboration of musicians supporting the expression of the woman's voice. Sister Speak has toured nationally playing over 500 shows, including appearances on Canada's Global TV, at festivals throughout North America, at NAMM, House of Blues San Diego, Hard Rock Chicago, monthly at Humphrey’s Backstage in San Diego, opening for Blondie Chaplin (Rolling Stones) and all over the USA and western Canada. Sister Speak is currently working on their DEBUT full-length album! Estimated release: September 2013.

Jan Conner Trio
A graduate of the prestigious Grove School of Music and more than thirty years of professional performance and teaching, Jan has developed a musical style and interpretation that makes her jazz piano a delightful listening experience. Her music, as expressed with her trio (piano, bass and drums) demonstrates her love of life and her gentleness of character. Currently, the trio, with Ralph Schatz on bass and Bob Jones on drums is recording a new CD! The release date is September 2013.

Lillian Palmer
Called magnetic and excellent by the San Diego Union, recording artist Lillian Palmer has appeared at the Old Globe Theatre, Cassius Carter and the Lawrence Welk Resort Theatre, also in concert at the Poway and Escondido Center for the Performing Arts to name a few. Like a Lover is Lillian Palmer’s CD debut, arranged and produced by Grammy winner Bill Cunliffe. Like a Lover has received national airplay and is available on iTunes and all Internet music sites. When asked about her vocal style Lillian says, “I need to tell a story through the lyrics of the song. That tells me everything musically – direction, phasing and vocal coloring.” www.lillianpalmer.net 

David Maldonado
Reflecting the new generation of Spanish composers, guitar maestro David Maldonado returns to San Diego with a solo guitar concert featuring original Spanish compositions and re-worked pieces dating back to the early 1900s. David Maldonado was a selected student of the Royal Family of the Guitar as knighted by the King of Spain, has released four albums worldwide and has performed concerts globally, from Paris to Tokyo. No other guitarist can claim his mastery of so many styles of Spanish guitar within the same show including difficult styles of rasqueado (a precise rapid strumming pattern using all the fingers of the right hand) and picados (extremely fast guitar scales).

The Mighty Untouchables   

This supreme multi-cultural mix of musicians and singers entertain throughout the world, and are guaranteed to please audiences of all tastes with their extensive and diverse collection of material.  The Mighty Untouchables offer everything from Motown to classic rock, along with Latin, country, current pop hits, and much more.  Their repertoire includes songs from The Temptations, Carrie Underwood, Journey, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Guns N’ Roses, Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, just to name a few!  www.themightyuntouchables.com

 Local restaurants will be providing culinary treats which are all included in the event price -    Anthony's, Baby Cakes, Cali Comfort, Brigantine, Grove Pastry Shop, Hacienda Casa Blanca, Hooley's, Mardi Gras Café, Riviera Supper Club, Rubio’s, Sadie Rose Bakery and Terra American Bistro are featured.   Starbuck’s will be hosting a coffee tasting and Point Loma Tea will combine forces with All Things Bright and British to offer a tea tasting.

The event will also include a selection of wines and craft beer from Ballast Point Brewery. Alchemy Restaurant’s mixology team is even creating a signature cocktail for the evening.  Sam Bass, disc jockey at KYXY, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. A variety of interesting auction items will be available including a 10-day cruise for two on Holland America Lines. Proceeds from the event will be used to preserve and enhance Mt. Helix Park and Amphitheater which receives no government funding yet is open to the public daily.

Tickets are $50 for general admission and $100 for reserved table seating and are presale only with prices going up prices go up to $60 and $125 on August 1.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.mthelixpark.org or by calling 619-741-4363. The event is expected to sell out.
