Monte Vista Alum Nick Cannon Quitting Radio Show Amid Health Concerns

The 31-year-old actor and comedian was recently hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs.

Actor, musician, and radio host Nick Cannon, a graduate of Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, was recently hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs, the Huffington Post reported Thursday.

Cannon, 31, was hospitalized last Friday, according to a report in the New York Daily News. Last month, he was also hospitalized with what his wife, singer Mariah Carey, told reporters was "mild kidney failure."

It is now being reported that because of concerns about his health, Cannon is quitting his popular "Rollin' with Nick Cannon" radio show on 92.3 NOW in New York City.

"Under doctor's orders, I have been asked to put my health first and cut back on some of my professional commitments in order to allow my body to get the rest that it needs to keep up with the demands of my multi-tasking schedule," Cannon, 31, said in a statement Friday.

The Spring Valley native said that he thinks that frequent air travel was the reason the blood clots formed in his lungs.

"I travel a lot. Anyone who flies a lot can be a victim to getting blood clots because it can start in your legs or your lower back (from sitting for an extended period of time)," the New York Daily News reported Cannon saying. "That, on top of my previous condition made me more prone to (getting blood clots)."

Doctors think that "overworking" has caused Cannon's poor health recently. In addition to his radio show, he is also the host of the NBC reality show "America's Got Talent."

He and Carey became parents nine months ago, when the 41-year-old singer gave birth to twin sons, one with a rather unusual name.

Cannon graduated from Monte Vista in 1998.
