War Of the Wee—Potty Training

Who is the winner in the potty training war?

Welcome back to Moms Talk, a weekly feature on Patch that's part of our initiative to reach out to moms and families. Moms Talk isn't just for moms, though, it's also a place for dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community.

Each week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council will take your questions, give advice and share solutions. Moms Talk will be your place to drop in for a talk about the latest parenting hot topic. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today.

If you are interested in becoming part of the Moms Council, please contact your local Patch editor. Email Eric Yates, Mount Helix Patch editor, at eric.yates@patch.com or Christine Huard, Lemon Grove Patch editor, at christine.huard@patch.com.

Here's our discussion topic of the week:

Teaching your child to be potty trained can be one of the most rewarding and frustrating things to go through as a parent. The exhilerating sense of accomplishmnet that a child feels when he or she finally goes in the potty can be equally rivaled by feelings of disappointment and failure for parents whose kids take a little longer.

Some parents try to incentivize the act with toys and treats, some take a hard-line approach by forcing their kids to go in the toilet, while others choose to let it happen more naturally, offering encouragement along the way.

So which way is best? Which way worked for you? We welcome you to share your comments and experiences below.
