Student Artworks on Display at Mission Trails Regional Center

Art teachers from the Grossmont Union High School District hand selected the student pieces on exhibit.

Top student works selected by art teachers in the Grossmont Union High School District are on display at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center Art Gallery through Jan. 3. Pieces range from drawings and paintings to photography and mix-media works.

The exhibit was put together when students were invited to exhibit at the center by the park's director and art coordinator. The two were so impressed with the high caliber of the artwork, they decided to mount a student showcase.

The school district's art teachers each hand-selected five pieces from their students to go on exhibit. There are about 60 pieces to see at the park's Visitor and Interpretive Center, 1 Father Junipero Serra Trail. The center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The school district has a high-quality arts program, making it a natural place for young people to develop their talents. Students in several of the art programs receive articulated college credit for their high school art classes. Courses are standards based, promote common core learning and encourage literacy.
