Snaring Attention: Grossmont Drumline Struts its Stuff, Would Please Beethoven

The Grossmont High School Drumline is known for its devotion to fun and good times, which is why it’s a crowd favorite during marching band shows. On Sunday the percussion group competed at Westminster High School in Orange County. Their show, “Backwards,” earned fifth place out of 16 Division A ensembles, according to a YouTube posting.

The drummers in the back, comprising the bass drums, snares and quads, marched in different formations while the pit percussion provided the melody. Grossmont kept it classic. Included within the mix was Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Laurie Perry, a real estate sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s La Mesa office, recently went beyond the call of her duty when she helped place a military family in the right home while their dad and husband was deployed.

The Fielding family had their heart set on acquiring a short-sale home, which is known to be an excruciatingly long process.

“Laurie was focused on the bigger picture,” said Rachel Fielding, wife to Ken Fielding, a member of the military. “She was truly professional throughout the entire process and then some. During the move into our dream home, my husband was away with the military and Laurie and her husband came by to remove a shed weeks after the sale. We were truly blessed to have her come into our lives.”

Said Perry’s Coldwell Banker team leader Deniese Ossey: “Laurie’s down-to-earth style, attention to detail, and laser focus for each client is what allows her to succeed in today’s challenging real estate environment.”

HOW TWEET: These days it’s difficult to approach strangers for small talk. Thankfully, Twitter is making it easy for us to get to know our fellow La Mesans. One such tweeting resident is Tim Campbell, a self-described “guitarist guy in the Abigail Williams hoodie.” Last night Campbell (@Timwritesmusic) tweeted, “Eating an orange at the la mesa trolley stop. Yee dat.”
