Sleep Under the Stars: Mission Trails Regional Park Reopens to Overnight Campers
The area includes picnic tables and restrooms, along with 46 camp sites.
A popular part of Mission Trails Regional Park reopened to overnight campers Friday following a two-year shutdown stemming from budget cutbacks.
The Kumeyaay Lake Campgrounds, on the east side of the park, had been open for day use only the past couple of years, and now will be open on Friday and Saturday nights, as well.
The City Council set the stage for the return of overnight camping by contributing $140,000 while making mid-year budget adjustments.

"The Kumeyaay Lake Campground is an asset for all San Diegans where families can come and enjoy our beautiful open space and learn about the environment," said Councilman Scott Sherman, who represents the area and is an avid outdoorsman. "The reopening of the campgrounds marks a great day for our city and community."
The campground will remain day-use only Sunday through Thursday. The area includes picnic tables and restrooms, along with 46 camp sites.
