Casa de Oro resident Dennis McCreight is an avid watercolor painter, storyteller, and a record-holding angler. Now he has one more title to add: published author.
McCreight held a book launch party at Casa de Oro Library on Friday, where he talked about his new book "Ain't No Bum."
The book is a story about a young man’s quest to overcome the condemnation of his notorious father. Although determined, he soon discovers that in his world of economic chaos and turmoil he will need more than just his abundant drive and willpower. Fortunately, he finds a loving partner who not only lightens his load but also saves him — from himself.
The main character, Milt McCoy, journeys through the Midwest during the Great Depression, World War II and post-war years, and tries to overcome adversity through forging meaningful relationships and pursuing personal triumphs, despite a checkered past.
McCreight gained his own slice of local fame in May 2011, when he caught a record-breaking rainbow trout out of Lake Cuyamaca. The fish weighed in at 14.8 pounds.
"Ain't No Bum," is available in paperback at all county libraries, on Amazon.com and on most e-book platforms.
