Thousands of people were in attendance Sunday, as Cali Comfort Restaurant and Sports Bar, along with the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, held the second annual Spring Valley Tailgate and BBQ Festival.
Sixteen amateur BBQ teams, most of whom were from Spring Valley, competed to earn prize money, as well as to raise money for the Spring Valley Sports Council, which will provide scholarships to allow children participate in youth sports, who might not otherwise be able to.
Prizes were given in five categories: pork ribs, chicken, carne asada, tri-tip, and tailgate design.
The Smoked Out! team, featuring Doug Dowdy and Andrew Brailsford, took home the grand champion award and $250. They also took home a portable San Diego Chargers bar, which was donated by Best of Times bar.
