Photo Gallery: New Seasons Church Hosts Free Backpack Event

New Seasons Church teamed up with Neighborhood Healthcare to provide a family friendly event to promote education and health.

On Thursday, Aug. 11, New Seasons Church and Neighborhood Healthcare held a "back-to-school" event, in which they gave away more backpacks full of school supplies to needy students.

There was a great turnout with families lined up down the block to enter. Not only were about 300 backpacks given away, but there were also reusable water bottles included, as well. A table was also stacked with books for children to choose from to promote active reading.

Health Net provided T-dap vaccinations to any middle or high school student that needed it as part of the new state requirement.

Booths of guest presenters were lined up around the church parking lot to provide information to families. Healthy lunch choices were provided by the Summer Food Service Program to all children under age 18.

In addition to this, educational presentations were made to inform children about healthy food options. This was a great way to teach families the results of bad eating habits and inform them of the benefits of healthier food alternatives.

Several bikes were raffled away to help keep students physically active. Certificates were also given out to some very well deserving young readers.

There was musical entertainment and a bounce house to give the kids some fun exercise before lunch.

Guest presenters included Health Net, AKA Head Start, Network for A Healthy California, San Diego Youth Services, Home-Start, Family Health Centers of San Diego, American Red Cross-WIC Program, Golden SHARE Foods, Neighborhood Healthcare, and Care 1st Health Plan.

This event was an excellent way to kick-off the new school year!
