Girl Scout Troop 6109 celebrated the International Day of Peace 2011 atop Mount Helix.

On Sept. 21,  Girl Scout Troop 6109 celebrated the International Day of Peace 2011 at by planting hanmade pinwheels into the ground.  They were part of an inititiative, whereby about 3.5 million pinwheels were spinnning throughout the United States, Great Britain, South America, Australia, the Middle East, Canada, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Our local girl scout troop made pinwheels of all sizes, shapes, colors, and mediums with words of peace and harmony.  "Pinwheels for Peace" originated in 2005 by two Art teachers from Florida, as a way for students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. If you happen to see a pinwheel this week spinning in a park, school yard or along side a road remember this day of Celebrating Peace 2011.
