AOL News writer and La Mesa’s own David Moye got a great gift the night before his birthday. Tuesday night the Colbert Report featured Moye’s article about septuagenarian porn star David Cummings, who owns a condo in San Diego.
According to Moye’s story, the elderly porn star is being inducted in the X-Rated Critics Organization’s Hall of Fame Class of 2011, marketed as “only the best and brightest in the world of porn.”
While Cummings has something [else] to smile about, Moye is stoked about his guest spot on Stephen Colbert’s satirical news program. “Pretty cool birthday gift,” Moye said on his Facebook page.

LA MESANS APPEAL TO SAN DIEGO UNIFIED: As the La Mesa-Spring Valley school board was voting on 113 layoff notices, a few La Mesa residents were at the San Diego Unified board meeting asking members to preserve the music programs around the district.
Michael Rabin, a third-grade teacher at Oak Park Music Conservatory, an elementary music magnet, implored the board not to cut the arts. “Oak Park students need a lifeline,” Rabin said, recognizing the contribution the local music teachers–Joanne Terry, Derek Suzuki, Lisa Williams and Mike Mooneyham–make to the curriculum.

TIME FOR GREAT SAX: Also at the San Diego Unified meeting was the San Diego State saxophone quartet, which won the SDSU Concerto Competition last year. The quartet performed an arrangement of the music of Philip Glass. Alto saxophonist Jordan Jelison, an SDSU freshman, said his dad lived near Vons on Avocado Boulevard, south of La Mesa. Jelison wants to be a high school music teacher after earning his bachelor’s in music education.
