Moms Council Question of the Week: Do You Let Your Toddler Pick and Choose?

Decisions, decisions, decisions for mom over letting the little one make decisions.

Welcome back to Moms Talk Q&A!  In this space every Wednesday, the La Mesa Patch Moms Council will pose a question and invite your wisdom—and chime in themselves.

The council is captained by Town Pulse columnist Genevieve Suzuki,  who has lived in La Mesa for two years. She has a 2-year-old daughter, Quinn.

Other members of the Moms Council are:

  • Deena While, who was born and raised in La Mesa. She opened children’s bookstore Readers Inc. in 2008. While is mom to Jenny, 20; Ben, 15; and Ian, 13.
  • Linda Byerline,  Happy Heinys CEO, who graduated from Grossmont High School in 1990. She and her family moved to La Mesa 16 years ago. She has three children: Michael, 14; Jacob, 12; and Sarah, 10.
  • And Tony Lawrence, Grateful Dad band member and coach-of-all-sports, who has lived in La Mesa for 16 years. He has three children: Anthony Jr., 14; Isabella, 13; and Richie, 9.

Now the question:

Do you let your toddler make decisions? For instance, when you take him to the store, do you give him the choice between Thomas the Tank Engine or Chuggington?
