Leader No. 16: Senate Aide Elizabeth Blumberg Aims to Lead a Major Campaign

The 22-year-old said she finds inspiration from her late parents who are her “guardian angels.”

Elizabeth Blumberg is working her way up in the political world.

Blumberg, 22, is a district representative for state Sen. Joel Anderson. She said she got into her field because she knows it’s important for “young people to be active, informed, and involved in the community no matter what their political beliefs are.”

After scoring an internship in Anderson’s office in February 2011, Blumberg was offered a full-time gig—and she’s learned a lot.

"Working in a legislative district office allows me to see firsthand all that the county has to offer, experience the diverse culture that I did not have living in the small town in Pennsylvania where I grew up, and see what the citizens of California really care about.”

Inspired by her parents, who passed away, she said she hopes to manage a major political campaign in the next election cycle and become a chief of staff.

“I can feel them with me every single minute of every day and I turn to them when I need advice and guidance,” she said. “They are my guardian angels. Their wisdom has been instilled in me and inspires every decision I have made and will make in the future.  They’ve given me my positive outlook on life, the confidence to take on anything, and the desire to inspire others in every aspect of life.”

Advice for young people:

“Seize every opportunity you are given and don’t be afraid to take chances to do something out of your comfort zone.  Strive to be the best; don’t just ‘go through the motions.’  Read the book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie and make sure you end up doing what you love so you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”
