La Mesa Nurse Receives KYXY Cares Award

Sharp HospiceCare's Toni Bingham, RN, to be honored at Hotel Del Coronado Friday.

The following announcement was made by Sharp Grossmont Hospital on Friday, June 1, 2012:

Toni Bingham, RN, Sharp HospiceCare, received the April 2012 KYXY Cares Award and will be one of nine nurses in the San Diego to be honored during a luncheon Friday at the Hotel Del Coronado. The KYXY Cares Award recognizes nurses for making a difference for patients, the nursing profession and the local community.

Program partners Azusa Pacific University, KYXY Radio and Sophie @ 103.7 reviewed nominations from September 2011 through May 2012 and selected a winner at the end of each month. In April, Bingham was selected and honored at Sharp HospiceCare in La Mesa, where she received a commemorative plaque and a 50-minute gift certificate for a spa treatment at the Spa at The Del.

Bingham was nominated by her colleague, Suzanne Degner, MSW, medical social worker, Sharp HospiceCare. In a written nomination, Degner acknowledged Bingham as an “exceptional nurse and colleague” who delivers comfort care to terminal patients with six months or less to live.

“Toni does this by combining compassion, integrity and skill to honor a patient’s wishes at the end of life. She ensures that patients and families are heard, valued and nurtured,” Degner wrote.
