Green Day, Sweet Retreat and Little Mermaid Swims Into Weekend

April showers bring May flowers and colorful events to East County.

Travel under the sea with The Little Mermaid or volunteer and help beautify Santee Lakes.

MT. HELIX ACADEMY PRESENTS "THE LITTLE MERMAID"

• What's Up: Mt. Helix Academy students will take the audience under the sea and into the world of Ariel. More than 60 students will be featured in the performance.
• When: 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3.
  
• Where: The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, 6845 University Ave, San Diego.
• Price: $15.

SWEET RETREAT FUNDRAISER

• What's Up: La Mesa Rotary Club and Volunteers in Medicine will host Sweet Retreat. The fundraiser include gourmet dessert, wine, beer and silent auction.Proceeds will benefit Volunteers in Medicine and other East County organizations.
• When: 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
  
• Where: Mission Trails Regional Park, 1 Father Junipero Serra Trl, El Cajon.

GREEN DAY AT THE LAKES

• What's Up: Bring your work gloves and shovels to Santee Lakes. Volunteer your time to help keep the Lakes clean and green.

BEYOND BOOKS: LIVE WELL SANTEE

• What's Up: Santee Library will host a health fair. The event, Beyond Books, Live Well Santee will feature free services and information on healthy living.
• When: 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

SAN DIEGO FESTIVAL CHORUS: A CONCERT CELEBRATION

• What's Up: The San Diego Festival Chorus will perform Gabriel Faure's Requiem, Irving Berlin's God Bless America, Richard Rodgers' The Sound of Music' and more.
• When: 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.
