Floridian Marketing Postcard of La Mesa Depot as Classic Americana

Also: Super Bowl steals the scene from BJ's Restaurant, and Wildflowers for Valentine's

Elmo Adams is a retired teacher who lives in Leesburg, FL, but his Etsy shop, PaperMoChez, bills itself as “Old Goat Provides Old Stuff.” His collection of “vintage photos and antique postcards” includes “a fine picture postcard of an American landmark—The Train Station” taken right here in La Mesa.

The back of the postcard offers interesting information, according to Adams’ description. He estimates the postcard is from the early '60s. Adams also guarantees the card is in good shape and will return a buyer’s money if it’s not the case.

If you’re interested in the card, PaperMoChez is selling it for $3.95 plus shipping. Check it out for yourself here.

SUPER BOWL STEALS THE HOMIES: When it comes to the Super Bowl, it seems La Mesa liked to stay home. A manager at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery at Grossmont Center said it was  “the slowest day of the year.” The restaurant, usually packed corner to corner, hosted around six fans for Super Bowl XLV. No fights broke out among the small group of Super Bowl viewers—evenly divided by Packers and Steelers loyalists.

HEARTY HELP: Sherri Buck is at it again. She’s holding an event at her store, Handful of Wildflowers, to help customers achieve shining wining and dining for Valentine’s Day. There’ll be beauticians to add “bling” in the way of tinsel, feathers or extensions to your hair, and a manicurist doing Valentine-themed nails with polish, decals and stones.

Several local musicians will serenade shoppers who also have the opportunity to indulge in a little wine tasting and light snacks. Perhaps most important is that there are a nice selection of romantic gifts to get the one you love to avoid dining with Fido in the doghouse. The event  5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
