Trash Pick Up Schedule Delayed Due to Thanksgiving Day Holiday

And, EDCO offers advice on properly disposing of kitchen fat, oil and grease.

EDCO customers with a Thursday or Friday pick up schedule will experience a service delay this week due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday, according to a company spokewoman.

Collection will be delayed by one day. Public disposal sites, buyback centers and customer service offices will be closed to observe the holiday.

Are you deep-frying a turkey? Thanksgiving produces a lot of kitchen FOG (fat, oil, and grease), and EDCO is reminder residents that those dinner drippings are recyclable.

To dispose of this waste that's harmful to your plumbing and the environment, collect fat drippings, used oil, and food grease in a leak-proof container and drop it off free of charge at one at an EDCO buyback center. The FOG will be processed, filtered and converted into bio-diesel by a third party processor.

It is important that participants do not mix FOG with any other oils, such as motor oil or gear oil, that inhibit the process of converting the FOG into biodiesel, spokeswoman Yvette Snyder said.
