Community Garden Training Courses Ongoing, Space Still Available

The courses are on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the SVECC, Room 30.

Space is still available for the series of gardening training courses, which are being offered for free at the

The classes cover different aspects of starting and maintaining a home garden, including spacing and arrangement, how to test soil, and composting.

The Gardening 101 courses will precede Gardening 201 courses, which focus on "community gardens" and Gardening 301 courses, which focus on "school gardens."

They are being offered as part of a requirement of in April. The community garden at the SVECC is one of five community gardens benefiting from the grant money.

The courses are being co-taught by Barbara Warner, collaborative coordinator for Spring Valley Youth and Family Coalition; Tina Carlson, executive director of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce; Robin Wood, director of the Head Start program; and Steven Jella, associate executive director of San Diego Youth Services.
