Christmas in the Village Returns to Warm Hearts, Entertain All Ages
Child mimes and the Balloon Man were hits at Day 1 of the 22nd annual event on La Mesa Boulevard.
The holiday spirit was alive Friday for the opening night of the 22nd annual Christmas in the Village. Visitors had a reprieve from recent below-freezing temperatures, making for a festive event as Santa posed for pictures and children forgot their shyness to call out “Merry Christmas!” to passers-by.
Bonfires dotted La Mesa Boulevard, along which a troop of Christian mimes and the Balloon Man, who elicited cheers from entranced onlookers. Carnival rides got the attention of the younger crowd while a horse-drawn carriage led by the Belgian beauties Doc and Duke offered a more tranquil opportunity. Â
Crafts, food and a good, old-fashioned puppet show were also part of the fun—all courtesy of the sponsoring La Mesa Village Merchants Association.
