East County Students to Perform in Young Actors' Theatre to Stage Production of 'Alice in Wonderland, Jr.'

Young Actors’ Theatre is pleased to announce the opening of the stage version of the family classic Alice in Wonderland under the direction of Gerardo Flores and choreographer Katie Wallace.  The cast, residents of East County areas of La Mesa, Spring Valley, Santee, Lakeside, and El Cajon are high energy and include both newcomers and YAT veterans ages 8-13.

A classic tale, the show engages the audience as Alice travels down the rabbit hole and has madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!  Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. is a fast-paced stage adaptation of the timeless film, featuring updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."

First time director Gerardo Flores, of University of San Diego, brings a unique perspective in guiding this cast through acting, dancing, and singing.  Flores recently starred as Jean Valjean in YAT’s production of Les Miserables and Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, amongst many other theatrical and musical roles. “This is a very talented and energetic young cast that is perfectly suited to perform Alice’s whimsical journey, ”  Flores said.  “The wonderful choreography led by Katie Wallace (assisted by Jonathan Hoagland) is challenging the cast to creative amazing moments on stage.”
