40' Cell Tower on Hercules Near School

I arrived at work this morning to find a 40' Cell Tower - a "Mono Pine" as they called- being installed just adjacent to the property line of our school. I was shocked and dismayed to find that La Mesa had issued a permit to Verizon for the 40' tower despite the fact that our little school sits right next door.

I unfortunately have personal experience with the health risks these towers pose, as I have been watching my neighbor fight an incurable brain tumor for the past several years. He is a landscape artists and just prior to his diagnosis he was hired to do a beautification at one of these mono pine sites. He tells stories of "hearing" the activity happening within the panels as he worked and thinking to himself that he didn't feel "right". It was shortly after that job that the first of his tumors occurred and despite the expertise of several UCSD oncologists that had NEVER seen one like his and the cause was plausible.

When I called city planning the gentleman was very friendly, but I got the distinct feeling he was "passing the buck" on how the set-backs and school issue were not addresses. He sited FCC could override any issues La Mesa might have with the site of the tower.  I'm not sure I am buying that, but I will keep making calls and asking for advise from people who understand property law.
