Free Cardiac Screening for High Schoolers

Grossmont High School, 1100 Murray Dr, El Cajon, CA | Get Directions »
FREE

High schoolers can register online to get a free cardiac screening at Grossmont High School on March 4.

The screenings are made possible thanks to the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation, which was founded by Eric Paredes' parents after Paredes, a 15-year-old wrestler, died of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

One of the missions of Eric's Foundation is to screen high school students in hope of preventing other families from experiencing this same tragedy.

Dr. John Rogers, a San Diego area cardiologist and also the president of the San Diego Chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, along with other volunteers, is responsible for putting together this free high school program.

Teens that register to get screened should print and fill out these forms.

Volunteers are needed for the March 4 event, says Therese Sands, Grossmont High School PTO president.

Despite turning 90 in late September 2010, the school that is one-third in La Mesa and two-thirds in El Cajon has many elements of newness, including a Science Building erected with Proposition H funds overlooking an all-weather track and artificial-grass football field. It was named a California Distinguished School in 2008, and its alumni include three astronauts, several major league baseball players and an Olympic javelin thrower.

In sports, Grossmont's strongest tradition is in baseball —  its varsity team having won section titles four straight years (2005-2008).  In the arts, the Red Robe Choir is renowned and has traveled around the world. Its Royal Blue Regiment marching band has performed in major parades.

The school has a PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) and operates under the umbrella of the Grossmont High School Education Foundation.
