Chairman/CEO of one of the nation’s biggest banks is under fire by investors, faces FBI probe.
When a bank is robbed, the FBI swoops in. When a major bank loses $2 billion, other agencies take the lead. But in the case of Jamie Dimon and JPMorgan Chase, the FBI is investigating there as well in the wake of its stunning loss, which has triggered investor lawsuits. Bank regulation remains a contentious issue, but what about criminal liability? Should CEO and Chairman of the Board Dimon be brought up on charges? Should he and other bank executives face jail terms?
And how Microsoft hopes to make it up to you with a $99 deal for a new Xbox.
Imagine going on vacation this fall and you are taking your brand new Windows 8 laptop with you, in part to play movies on the long flight for your 3-year-old. The plane takes off, you slip in your toddler's favorite Disney DVD, and...nothing. Nada. It won't play. That brand new laptop doesn't have the software to play a DVD. What a terrible mistake! What an oversight! How could this have happened on a new machine with the latest version of Windows? On purpose. Microsoft has decided consumers don't need software for watching DVDs Blu-ray discs or broadcast TV in the version of Windows coming this fall, and so without purchasing an add-on pack from Microsoft or a third-party vendor you will not be able to watch a DVD like you can on your …

The eatery bearing the name of the late Chargers star Junior Seau ceased operations Wednesday. Seau died two weeks ago from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in a spare bedroom of his Oceanside beachfront house. He was laid to rest on Friday, hours before a public memorial drew thousands of mourning fans to Qualcomm Stadium. A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close Seau's The Restaurant, which opened in 1996. "The trustees made their decision to honor Seau's legacy and preserve the memories of the excitement, fun and warmth that were the hallmarks of the restaurant during the famed linebacker's lifetime," said Bette Hoffman, a trustee, former director of the Junior Seau Foundation and ex-vice president of Seau…
Owners and management hope the new initiative creates a more comfortable, relaxing environment at lunchtime.
Gingham, one of the most popular eateries in La Mesa, has expanded its lunch menu and is now offering sit-down lunch service. The restaurant, which is owned by San Diego chef and restauranteur Brian Malarkey, is changing its mid-day vibe, and is now serving selected entrees, and an abbreviated version of its “Bites” appetizers menu for lunch. The full-service lunch began on Monday. The restaurant previously served lunch, but it was limited to several salads and sandwiches, soups, and bratwurst or sausages, creating more of a “chalkboard walk up café,” said executive chef Ryan Studebaker. The new initiative creates a more comfortable, relaxing environment. “The new lunch service is more like a full-service sit-down restaurant,” he said. “We…

The deal calls for 3 percent annual pay hikes for the 76,000 affected employees in California, and 2 percent in states ranging from Hawaii to Maryland, according to announcements made by the SEIU and Kaiser officials. Kaiser operates clinics and hospitals throughout San Diego County, including locations in La Mesa, Carlsbad, Oceanside and Rancho Bernardo. Updated at 5:25 p.m. May 9, 2012 U-T San Diego is in “final talks” to buy The Orange County Register and 24 community newspapers it owns, according to a witness to the announcement and a reported confirmation by the U-T publisher. Also in the deal would be Coast magazine and associated local newspapers in Orange County. At 1:10 p.m. Lynch told Patch via email: “No confirmation of anything other than we would like to expand and are looking at all other newspapers in Southern California.
