Wilson Leads Helix Over Mission Hills to First-Round CIF Hoops Victory

Junior Romario Wilson scored 15 points to lead Helix Charter High School past visiting Mission Hills of San Marcos 48-39 in a slow-starting first game of the CIF San Diego Division I basketball playoffs.  The Grizzlies led at halftime 17-16, but the Scotties clawed ahead and kept their lead in the final period. Other top scorers for the Highlanders were seniors Brian Valadez (13 points) and Kene Anigbogu (11). John Singer’s team, seeded ninth in the tournament, raised its record to 18-9 and advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals at No. 1 El Camino High School in Oceanside after beating Otay Ranch 72-52.  Meanwhile, Grossmont High School fell to No. 2  seed Torrey Pines 70-47 in North County as Frank Foggino’s team ended the season with a 14-13 record.
