Photo Gallery: Water Smart Gardening Festival Alive With Color

Attendees get tips on garden design, plant selection, composting, garden maintenance, soils, water conservation and water recycling.

On Saturday, Nov. 13, the Water Conservation Garden was blooming with opportunities for the community to harvest loads of information on how to get their gardens and landscapes growing. Programs, consultants and agencies were on hand providing guidance and classes in garden design, plant selection, composting, garden maintenance, soils, water conservation and water recycling.

Many local Southern California vendors had a wide variety of flowers, trees, California native plants and drought tolerant and fire-wise plants and shrubs available for sale. Kids enjoyed face painting, classes about dinosaurs, and the Rad Hatter Activity Booth.

This garden is a unique partnership between water agencies, the city of San Diego and Cuyamaca College, each of which is concerned with preserving our water resources in the region while serving the water needs of the people.

The Water Conservation Garden is open to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Docent tours are Saturdays at 10:30 am. Guests are encouraged to take a leisurely stroll through the meandering paths or discover great gardening books inside the gift shop. Yearly memberships to the conservation garden are also available.

On Dec. 3-4, the garden will have its "Holiday in the Garden," event, which will be another family fun adventure for the community. More information is available at thegarden.org.
