Two Former Helix Stars Selected in 2013 NFL Draft

Jamar Taylor (Boise State) and Levine Toilolo (Stanford) were selected by the Dolphins and Falcons, respectively.

A pair of former Helix Charter High School teammates had the privilege of hearing their names called, as they were selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Jamar Taylor (Class of 2008), a cornerback from Boise State, was taken by the Miami Dolphins with the 22nd pick of the 2nd round, 54th overall. He is expected to compete for a starting position.

According to his profile on NFL.com, Taylor was the top performer for all cornerbacks at the NFL combine in February in the 40-yard dash (4.39 seconds), the 20-yard shuttle (4.06 seconds) and the 225-pound bench press (22 reps).

The ultra-productive Taylor was excellent for the Broncos last season, and was named to the All-Mountain West Conferece First Team. He started every game and had 51 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 9 pass breakups, 4 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.

Scouts list his NFL comparison as former Chargers cornerback Drayton Florence.

Taylor's former Helix teammate Levine Toilolo (Class of 2009), was also drafted on Saturday. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 36th pick of the 4th round, and 133rd overall.

Toilolo, a tight end from Stanford University, is expected to backup future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez for the Falcons.

Toilolo was one of the highest ranked tight end prospects coming out of high school, according to his NFL.com profile. But his Cardinal career was mired with inconsistency. He also had to share time at tight end with other drafted Stanford tight ends, Coby Fleener (34th overall pick, 2012) and Zach Ertz (35th overall pick, 2013.)

A huge target with great hands and excellent leaping ability, Toilolo caught 24 passes for 393 yards and 4 TDs during his senior season.

Toilolo comes from an athletic family. Three of his uncles are former NFL players: Dan Saleaumua, Edwin Mulitalo and Joe Salave'a. His cousin, Jennifer Saleaumua, was an All-American volleyball player at Nebraska, and his sister Chastity was on the track team at the University of Utah.

Toilolo's NFL comparison is Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis, according to scouts.

Helix has a storied history of sending players to the NFL, including No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith in 2005, and No. 2 overall pick in 2006 Reggie Bush.

Smith was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in March, and Bush signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions the very next day.
